Donations and donors

Contributions and donations to the castle and to the museum

Donation of an object

Museums were always extending their collections though donations. Wealthy donors even stood behind the foundation of many museums. Nowadays the Museum of Vimperk extends its collection in three ways: 1) purchasing, 2) findings, 3) donations. The donations constitutes most of the new acquisitions.

Castles have quite a few donated items on their tours as well.

What kind of objects interests the Museum of Vimperk?

The collections of the Museum of Vimperk are various and their scope is not particularly limited. We will be pleased by any interesting object which you would like to offer to the museum. Objects, photos, postcards or artworks with picture of the Vimperk castle are especially important for us.

The collections include for example: photos and postcards of Vimperk and surroundings, artworks, local archaeological findings, tools and objects connected with glassmaking, book printing and other crafts, items of everyday use etc.

Donation of books and archives

Two libraries are embodied in the Vimperk Castle and Museum of Vimperk. The specialized library of the Vimperk Castle is integrated between libraries of the National Heritage Institute. When the library collection will be transferred to the cataloguing system Tritius, the library will be open for researchers and its collection will be accessible in the on-line catalogue. One of the Museum of Vimperk collections is a library, based on the books printed in the Steinbrener book printing company.

The Museum of Vimperk is also collecting the archives about Vimperk, Šumava and surrounding region.

What books are we looking for?

The collection of the specialized library of the Vimperk Castle is focused on several topics. The main part of the collection is based on books about:

  • Vimperk, Šumava and surrounding region (the literature about the locality, including guidebooks);
  • book printing, glassmaking, and other crafts connected with the region;
  • historic preservation;
  • museum management;
  • history;
  • art.

We are interested in both new and earlier published books.

The Museum of Vimperk library collects mainly books printed in any of the Vimperk book printing factories (especially in Steinbrener printing factory) and old prints.

The Museum of Vimperk will gladly accept any archives connected with Vimperk, Šumava and surrounding region - for example:
